#Shop Local – Snuggles & Kisses
Anyone that knows me and Chris, knows we love fashion that we have very definite styles and like to dress the kids in clothes that reflect this. I have described Cairo’s style before as Scandi Gangster, this best describes his style, Scandi/gender neutral with hip-hop flavour.
One of the ways I’ve been able to achieve this in the last year is due to a little boutique on my local high street called Snuggles and Kisses, run by Rebecca this amazing little treasure trove is stuffed to the rafters with local Nottingham designers but mainly by the incredibly talented Rebecca herself.
Rebecca started off as a lingerie designer and whilst on maternity she turned her skills to making kids clothes, her clothes went down a store at her local toddler groups so she started taking orders before she started supplying a local boutique called Stush and when given the opportunity she very bravely took over and Snuggles And Kisses was born and it’s now an established part of the local high street..
I walk past the shop which is situated on Chilwell High Road around ⅘ times a week and after several months of walking past I decided to go in and investigate. I headed to the back of the store and found a sale rail with summer rompers and dungarees on so I bought a pair of ready made navy comic themed dungarees and a ‘girls’ romper with matching scarf because if anyone can carry off white with black palm trees its Cairo!
Whilst I was in the shop I soon realised from the bundles of fabric at her work station I would be able to order the clothes I wanted, in colours, patterns I wanted. Now to someone like myself, this is exciting! I did no more than order a pair of harems but only with one pocket as I wasn’t a fan of the pair with both and a matching bandana bib.
We took away our ready made items and collected the custom bits ready for our trip to Centre Parcs where the romper was perfect for after swimming and the harem bib combo went perfectly with his denim shirts. Cairo loved the dungarees and with them being cut loosely they were perfect for his cloth bums and babywearing too. Within a couple of days they were ready and I asked if Rebecca could make some leggings for us, I was quite lucky as she said yes and they weren’t a part of her range at that time but she cracked on and we now own 5 pairs with various matching bib and infinity loop scarves.
After I went back to work I started dropping into see Rebecca and checking out the new fabrics a bit more frequently, this meant another set of dungarees and matching scarf, more leggings, another pair of leggings an infinity scarf to go with one of the kooks+kicks tees and then the summer fabrics came in we ordered more harems with a bib, another romper with a plain scarf and then for his birthday a dinosaur romper and leggings.
Not just for kids, Rebecca stocks the Momma Makes brand which includes a ‘Dad’s Life’ backpack which I purchased for Chris for Father’s Day, as well as Momma Life tees and jumpers, tired mums club vests which I’ve just bought and I love!, Kid’s life tees, rompers and various breastfeeding themed clothes. This year there were even Teachers Gifts, Baby Shower gifts and Nursery Art.
With the Milk Lounge opening across the road the business has gone from strength to strength with rebecca spending many a late Friday night sewing at the shop or her Mum working alongside to keep up with her amazing 10 dayish long waiting time!
As the only local children’s’ clothing boutique that not only is independent but sells wooden toys, amber jewelry, locally made gifts, clothes and shoes too Snuggles and Kisses for me is the only place to buy for Cairo and the rest of us and the first place I head when I’m buying gifts for other people.
So shop local people and support small businesses you might just make a few new friends along the way.
